Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band to headline 23rd Master Musicians Festival July 8-9

Tickets on sale now at mastermusiciansfestival.org

The Master Musicians Festival kicks off its 23rd year in blues-rock fashion by welcoming five-time GRAMMY nominated singer/guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band as its headliner, along with a lineup packed with Americana, rock, folk, bluegrass, country, soul and R&B masters. The two-day event, presented by Don Marshall Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, returns to Somerset Community College’s Festival Field on July 8-9, 2016.

American funk and soul group Robert Randolph and the Family Band — MMF alums who toured with Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band in 2014 — will close out Friday night’s cast of Kentucky-proud music, which also includes GRAMMY-nominated bluegrass singer Dale Ann Bradley. Bradley, former member of the New Coon Creek Girls and Renfro Valley Entertainment Center performer, will be honored as the 2016 Master Musician — the first female to receive the honor in the festival’s history.

Idaho native and Americana-style singer-songwriter Josh Ritter joins his Royal City Band on the MMF stage Saturday as he tours in support of his latest album, Sermon on the Rocks. Other Saturday highlights include American soul artist Lee Fields and the Expressions, and folk-rock great James McMurtry. A complete lineup is listed below and can be found at mastermusiciansfestival.org, along with photos and detailed information.

Held annually on the second weekend in July, the Master Musicians Festival has been named Southeast Tourism Society’s Festival of the Year and the Governor’s Awards for the Arts Outstanding Community Arts Organization.

In addition to two days of eclectic, diverse music, the Master Musicians Festival offers meet-and-greet workshops hosted artisans and musicians, as well as a wide variety of art and food vendors. This year, workshops will feature craft beer brewing and the history of the blues. MMF also showcases juried artisans and craftsmen, and recognizes a Kentucky artist whose festival-themed work is auctioned and featured on merchandise.

Weekend passes are on sale now on the MMF website and through Eventbrite. MMF continues its tradition of being a family-oriented event, as children 12 and younger are admitted free.
